Going out in Glasgow
Cinemas
Glasgow has an excellent selection of cinemas and multiplexes throughout the city and its outlying areas, each offering visitors a form of entertaining escapism and an inexpensive evening out in town. The only problem with cinema going in Glasgow is deciding which movie to go and see, as the list is endless on any given night of the week.
From the most up-to-date Hollywood Blockbusters to cutting edge 3D Movies at the IMAX Cinema at the Glasgow Science Centre, Glasgow caters for everyone’s taste in the world of cinema. In the international arena, film enthusiasts can view cutting edge screenings from Eastern Europe, Latin America and Asia at the Glasgow Film Theatre, Glasgow’s leading cinema theatre for classics and world cinema and home to the new Glasgow International Film Festival.
Glasgow’s largest cinema, Cineworld facing the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall is a fairly recent addition to the city’s cinema scene. Towering above the surrounding townscape, this 18-screen multiplex is the tallest cinema in Europe and offers first-class amenities and seating for patrons to relax and enjoy. Nearby, one of Glasgow’s oldest institutions, The Odeon, Renfield Street dating from the 1920s continues to showcase Hollywood screenings to this day, however with the developments of post-modern multiplexes such as Cineworld and Odeon at Springfield Quay, patronage has decreased at this much-loved 6-screen cinema, housed in a stunning Art-Deco building. Whatever screening you choose to see, you can be assured of a relaxing evening out in comfortable, well-appointed surroundings with first-class service to match.
